Veloso is the small live-music spot near Hongik University station that you walk past five times before you find it. It's underground in the literal sense — basement floor, low ceiling, a poster wall that's never been thinned out. The shows are mostly indie rock and shoegaze, and the crowd is mostly art school kids in entirely black outfits.
The thing about an all-black outfit is that it lives or dies on texture. Five black pieces in the same finish — all matte cotton, say — looks flat and a bit goth. The interesting version mixes a leather, a knit, a satin, a cotton. The eye picks up the differences even though the color is the same. This is the difference between looking like you're a fan of black and looking like you have a closet full of considered black pieces.
Boots not heels. The floor at Veloso is sticky and a little uneven. You won't regret the boots.
